Symbiotic Communications: Where Marconi Meets Darwin

چکیده

With the proliferation of wireless applications, electromagnetic (EM) space is becoming more and crowded complex. This makes it a challenging task to accommodate growing number radio systems with limited resources. In this article, by considering EM as ecosystem, leveraging analogy natural ecosystem in biology, novel symbiotic communication (SC) paradigm proposed through which relevant systems, called radios (SRs), form relationship (e.g., mutualistic symbiosis) intelligent resource/service exchange. Radio resources include, for example, spectrum, energy, infrastructure, while typical services are communicating, relaying, computing. The can be realized via either coevolution or synthesis. coevolution, each SR empowered an evolutionary cycle alongside multi-agent learning, synthesis, SRs ingeniously optimize their operating parameters transmission protocols solving multi-objective optimization problem. Promisingly, SC breaks boundary thus providing us fresh perspective on resource management new guidelines design future systems.

Modeling as Autonomous System : Varela Meets Darwin

This paper posits mental modeling as autopoietic systems of ideas based on processes of selection. A thought experiment is proposed to illustrate the argumentation. After reviewing the essential features of selection theory and mental models, we present modeling as driven by a process of variations and selections. We then show how the deliberate process of model development fosters the generati...

Where Structure Meets Function

5-Hydroxytryptamine 2 (serotonin 2 , 5-HT 2 )-family receptors are important for mediating many physiological functions, including vascular and nonvascular smooth muscle contraction, platelet aggregation, modulation of perception, mood, anxiety, and feeding behavior. A large number of psychopharmaceuticals, including atypical antipsychotic drugs, antidepressants, anxiolytics, and hallucinogens,...

Where transcription meets repair.

DNA damage can be caused by a broad range of agents. Both environmental and cellular damage-inducing factors threaten cellular integrity largely by impinging upon two vital processes: replication and transcription. The interference of replication by DNA damage and the deleterious consequences are relatively well understood (for details see Sancar and Sancar, 1988). Significantly, DNA damage has...

Where science meets society.

T he theme for next week's American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting, " The Nexus: Where Science Meets Society, " reminds us of many events of the past few years that suggest that the relationship between science and society is undergoing significant stress. Some members of the public are finding certain lines of scientific research and their outcomes disquieting...

Where Biology meets computing

AlAn Turing died in 1954 in his laboratory after eating a cyanide-laced apple. Though Turing’s mother believed her son’s death to be a result of the kind of accidents that befalls absent-minded mathematicians engaged in laboratory experiments, it is generally assumed to be a suicide. During his last years, Turing had become an experimentalist, interested in bio-chemical systems. He had proposed...
